Welcome to Hemopet

Hemopet is a full-service facility consisting of an animal blood bank, greyhound rescue and adoption, and specialty veterinary Hemopet26 emldiagnostic laboratory.

Hemopet
Dr. Jean Dodds started Hemopet's non-profit animal blood bank and greyhound rescue/adoption program in 1986. Hemopet's licensed blood bank provides state-of-the-art blood components and supplies for transfusions to veterinary clinics nationwide and internationally. We strive to make transfusion medicine practical, safe and affordable. To find out more about the blood products Hemopet offers, please click here. Find out about Veterinarian Springtime Special!

Pet Life-Line
Pet Life-Line is Hemopet’s greyhound adoption program. Hemopet rescues retired racing greyhounds from several states, and they then donate lifesaving blood periodically for 12-18 months. After that, Pet Life-Line adopts them out as family companions or places them into foster care for adoption. Hemolife Diagnostics
Hemolife Diagnostics is our division of Hemopet dedicated to offering the highest quality full-service laboratory diagnostic program with expert interpretation of data. Hemolife is unique in routinely offering expert clinical interpretive diagnostic comments that take into account the age, sex, and breed type, and activity of the animal; this yields an expected normal reference range for an individual pet (termed the “Case Specific” range on our reports) that differs from the generic broad reference range for the species (termed “General Range” on our reports).

The Hemolife specialty lab provides:
• CBC (complete blood count), Differentials, full Chemistry profile
• Titer testing and heartworm antigen (in-house)
• Thyroid testing -- the most comprehensive, patented and environmentally “green” diagnostic profiles for detecting and interpreting abnormalities of thyroid function, including autoimmune thyroiditis and hypothyroidism (dogs) and hyperthyroidism (cats). Horses are also tested.
• NutriScan -- patented novel saliva test for canine food sensitivity and intolerance.  Cats will be added in 2013. See NutriScan.org
• Any other veterinary diagnostic test can be provided via Hemolife, including OFA Thyroid Registry testing (OFA Expanded Profile preferred), and Hemolife’s own Thyroid GOLD certification.

This service is available to veterinarians worldwide and to individual animal owners through their veterinarian. Please visit the Hemolife section of our website for details.

Access to Dr. Jean Dodds' diagnostics program, whether for Hemolife or NutriScan, is easy. Veterinary clients and pet owners can just use our Online Test Request Forms. Additionally, we encourage veterinarians to sign up for an account which will allow them to access their information and test requests quickly and easily. Please click here.

NutriScan
Additionally, Dr. Dodds has introduced NutriScan, a novel, patented canine food sensitivity and intolerance testing system. This assay system uses saliva, rather than serum, and offers a clinically important new approach in nutrition. Salivary diagnostics can more reliably identify the foods to be avoided rather than focus on those that are less likely to be reactive.

Dr. Dodds' revolutionary concept is the first food intolerance and sensitivity testing program to match pets with their individual nutritional needs and genetic makeup, i.e. functional nutrition or nutrigenomics. This provides owners with accurate information to select the optimal pet foods and treats based on high level nutritional principles. Please visit NutriScan’s website for more information.

The Canine Thyroid Epidemic: Answers You Need for Your Dog
Dr. Dodds and Diana Laverdure co-authored The Canine Thyroid Epidemic: Answers You Need for Your Dog, which was rewarded the DWAA, Best Care and Health Book for 2011 and the Eukanuba Maxwell Canine Health Award. Please order a copy online.

Their second book, Nutrigenomics: Foods that Heal your Dog, is scheduled for publication in early 2013.
